Dorothy and Elizabeth Alderson: Two Ponies

Dorothy and Elizabeth Alderson (1900-88/92) were twin sisters from Yorkshire who worked and painted together, mainly on equine subjects. This watercolour study shows two small ponies, a chestnut of Welsh Mountain type, and a dark brown, probably a Dartmoor.  Each has its own character depicted, and they are shown in their shiny winter coats. Signed lower right, with the signatures of both sisters.
